O’Neal shared, “I started as 285 in Orlando. But they started hack-a-Shaq with me early so I started lifting weights and then I was 300 and then 315,”

“When Phil Jackson came and we won the first championship I was 345. Then I had a great summer and came back 385 for the second one. Last championship I was 415.”

“When I got traded away, Pat Riley had me doing Army drills and I got back down to 325. I was… up and down.”

Shaq appeared to be at his peak; however, to extend his career, he had to lose significant weight.

However, the center remained formidable in his game for a long time.

O’Neal was highly impressive when he was playing with the Los Angeles Lakers. His average was 27 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game and his shooting percentage was 57.

Despite this, the former NBA superstar was not recognized for his shape; however, with that height, he guided his weight commendably.

Unfortunately, his weight issues caused a schism with his late teammate, Kobe Bryant. Black Mamba, as lauded by millions and major voices in the NBA, was known as someone who worked incredibly hard on himself, given his stature.

Shaq, in his career, has won four NBA championships, and three NBA final MVPs, and earned fifteen NBA All-Star selections. Among many accolades, he was also on the All-NBA First Team eight-time and four-time All-NBA Third Team.
